Pass Through Devices Cable Firestop

CT120 Pass Through Devices / Cable Transits

Abesco Fire CT120 Cable Transits are used to seal cables which penetrate through up to 4 hour fire-rated concrete block walls and floors, and are suitable for most common types of construction.  Our Pass Through Devices are tested in concrete floors, concrete walls, concrete block walls, gypsum drywall assemblies, and rated wooden floor constructions.

Individual CT120 Cable Transits can be ganged together to form duplex, triplex, or sixplex units using special CT Mounting Flanges (which are supplied separately). The CT120 is suitable for data, communications and electrical supply cables, and even pipes; CT120 Cable Transits offer flexibility, expandability, and reliability from 0-100% fill.

Abesco Fire CT120 Cable Transits are firestop devices which are designed to allow cables to penetrate fire-rated floors and walls. They consist of a square or round steel sleeve, which contains the heat reactive graphite based intumescent material. The transits can be opened to provide an easy retro-fit option where cables are pre- installed, and are designed to allow for the installation or removal of additional cables. When exposed to temperatures of approximately 300oF the graphite based intumescent material begins to expand (intumesce) rapidly to form a solid insulating char plug which effectively closes and seals the CT120 to prevent the passage of fire and smoke thru the fire-rated wall or floor.

Sealants / Caulks how do they compare with the new Pass-Through Devices?

Sealants/Caulks have been the mainstay in the firestopping industry for many years and are an economical way to  provide a safe secure fire stop. The down side is that they are made to cure to a hardened state and must be totally removed when mining new cables and then replaced. Also, the thickness of the material is dependent on what the penetration is and most always is installed in conjunction with mineral wool as a backer. The combination of the two creates what is called a permanent fire stop and can be labor intensive.

For high traffic areas that require flexibility or sure fire reliability, it is desirable to install an Abesco Fire CT120 Cable Transit System. The devices, commonly known as Pass-Through Devices, are fast and easy requiring very little labor cost over the lifetime of the penetration and provide up to 4 hour fire ratings. Designed for the Data Communications and Electrical markets to use with a multitude of cable types, the devices can also be used with many other types of penetrants run through them.

Our Pass Through Devices are made in both round and square sizes! Square devices allow up to 6 devices to be banked together, all give you the option of 0-100% fill.

Putty sleeves and metal sleeves with mineral wool and sealant, require more time to install and are only rated for a maximum 48% cable fill. These sleeves require material to be removed and re-installed. Cable Transits, can be filled from 0 to 100% because the firestopping is an integral part of the device and can be used with a mix of penetrations or as a blank for future use.
